“Suits: LA,” a spinoff of the popular series “Suits,” which concluded in 2019, has been officially announced, sparking excitement among both longtime fans and those who discovered the show on Netflix. According to Variety, the new series will introduce viewers to Ted Black, a fresh character who transitions his high-stakes legal career from New York to Los Angeles. The original series creator, Aaron Korsh, is set to pen the pilot, collaborating with original producers Doug Liman, Dave Bartis, and Gene Klein. Filming is slated to begin in March in Vancouver, the original series’ filming location.
While casting details remain under wraps, with no word on the return of any original cast members, the synopsis for “Suits: LA” promises a compelling narrative. It describes Ted Black’s firm on the brink of collapse, forcing him to adopt a role he’s always despised. Surrounded by a dynamic group of characters, Ted’s journey involves navigating loyalty, personal and professional entanglements, and confronting his past decisions that led him to abandon everything he once cherished.
Patrick J. Adams, who starred in the original “Suits,” expressed his enthusiasm for potentially returning to the franchise, especially for a spinoff featuring his co-star Meghan Markle. Speaking at the 2024 Golden Globes, Adams praised Markle’s acting talent and expressed interest in reuniting with her on screen, despite Markle’s current royal commitments following her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018 and her subsequent retirement from acting. In a 2022 Variety interview, Markle indicated a return to acting was unlikely, stating, “I guess never say never, but my intention is to absolutely not.”
Adams remains hopeful about a potential spinoff with Markle, envisioning their characters, Mike and Rachel, in Seattle. Reflecting on the show’s newfound popularity on Netflix, Adams shared his astonishment and gratitude for “Suits” finding a second life, celebrating the new generation of fans who have embraced the series with even greater fervor than before.
