Taylor Swift walked right past ex Calvin Harris at the Grammys — here’s how he reacted

Taylor Swift narrowly avoided an uncomfortable encounter with her former beau, DJ and producer Calvin Harris, at the Grammy Awards in 2024.

Swift, aged 34, made history that Sunday by becoming the first artist ever to clinch the Album of the Year award four times. Her arrival at her seat in the Crypto.com Arena was notably delayed, coincidentally aligning with host Trevor Noah’s mention of the “Karma” singer, allowing her a grand entrance. “Look at this: I say their names, and they pop out,” Noah quipped as Swift, donned in a white Schiaparelli dress and black gloves, made her way to her table.

Harris, 40, glanced back at Swift and applauded along with the audience, indicating no lingering animosity between the ex-partners. Harris was at the event with his spouse, Vick Hope, whom he wed in September, and his track “Miracle” was nominated for Best Pop Dance Recording but lost to Kylie Minogue’s “Padam Padam.”

Swift and Harris’s relationship spanned from March 2015 to June 2016, during which Swift clandestinely co-wrote “This Is What You Came For,” performed by Rihanna, under a pseudonym. The track boasts over 1.6 billion streams on Spotify and the video has garnered more than 2.7 billion views on YouTube. The revelation in July 2016 that Swift was the song’s co-writer led Harris to publicly express his frustration on Twitter, now known as X.

Reflecting on his reaction, Harris told British GQ, “It was completely the wrong instinct. I was protecting what I see as my one talent in the world being belittled. It felt like things were piling on top of me and that was when I snapped.” He also discussed the challenges of their relationship being in the public eye, stating, “It’s very difficult when something I consider so personal plays out very publicly. The aftermath of the relationship was way more heavily publicized than the relationship itself. When we were together, we were very careful for it not to be a media circus.”

Harris acknowledged the impact of the media on their relationship but emphasized his growth from the experience, “She respected my feelings in that sense. I’m not good at being a celebrity. But when it ended, all hell broke loose. Now I see that Twitter thing as a result of me succumbing to pressure. It took me a minute to realize that none of that matters. I’m a positive guy.”

Swift has since moved on and is currently linked to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. She is anticipated to support him in Las Vegas as the Chiefs face the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.
