The mystery of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 remains unsolved more than a decade after it vanished on March 8, 2014, with 239 people on board. While extensive searches have yielded only scattered debris, several theories attempt to explain the plane’s disappearance. A renewed search effort by marine robotics firm Ocean Infinity is now underway in hopes of finally solving the case.

One theory suggests that MH370 was hijacked, possibly by international spies. Aviation journalist Jeff Wise speculates that individuals gained access to the aircraft’s electronics bay and manipulated its flight controls. This theory is partially linked to the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, which was shot down over Ukraine months later, raising suspicions of a targeted attack.

Another theory implicates the plane’s pilot, Zaharie Ahmad Shah. Some believe he deliberately changed course, flying south until the aircraft ran out of fuel and crashed into the ocean. However, Wise later shifted his belief toward the hijacking theory, arguing that the pilot’s supposed involvement lacked conclusive evidence.

A third theory, presented by French journalist Florence De Changy, suggests that the U.S. or NATO intercepted the plane. In MH370: The Plane That Disappeared, De Changy claims the aircraft was carrying suspicious cargo, prompting military forces to jam its communications and potentially bring it down. While speculation persists, families of the victims continue to seek answers, hoping that new search efforts will finally provide closure.
