Tom Hanks recently issued a warning to his fans about fake advertisements using his name and likeness to promote “wonder drugs.” The actor revealed that these ads were created using artificial intelligence without his consent and falsely claim he endorses certain miracle cures. Hanks clarified that he has no involvement with these products and only works with his certified doctor to manage his type 2 diabetes. He urged his followers not to be deceived by these fraudulent ads.

This isn’t the first time Hanks has faced such an issue. Last October, he alerted fans about a dental plan scam that used an AI-generated version of him. He emphasized that he had no affiliation with the promotion and urged his fans to be cautious. Hanks’ message reflects growing concerns about the misuse of AI technology to create fake endorsements.

Country music star Lainey Wilson also shared her experience with similar scams while speaking to Congress. Wilson disclosed that her image was used without permission to promote weight-loss gummies, a product she would never endorse. She highlighted the dangers of AI technology being used to manipulate voices and create misleading content, especially for artists who value their personal image and connection with fans.

Both Hanks and Wilson are calling for greater awareness and regulation of AI’s use in creating unauthorized content. They stress the importance of protecting one’s name, likeness, and voice from misuse, underscoring that people should have control over how their personal attributes are used in public.
