President Donald Trump has appointed longtime Fox News host Jeanine Pirro as interim U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., making her one of the most high-profile media personalities to cross into a major federal law enforcement role. Pirro replaces Ed Martin, who is transitioning to a position within the Justice Department.
Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, praising Pirro as “a powerful crusader for victims of crime” and highlighting her creation of the nation’s first Domestic Violence Bureau during her time as a New York prosecutor. “She is in a class by herself,” Trump wrote, calling her one of the top district attorneys in New York’s history.

Fox News confirmed Pirro’s departure in a statement, thanking her for her 14-year tenure and contributions to programs like The Five. Her exit marks another instance of Trump drawing key personnel from conservative media circles, as he previously tapped former Fox contributor Pete Hegseth for a Cabinet role.
Pirro, a longtime Trump loyalist, has been outspoken in her defense of his policies and presidency. Her new role places her in one of the most politically sensitive prosecutorial positions in the country—one that could have significant implications for federal investigations and public trust in impartial justice.
