President Donald Trump has launched a new immigration initiative offering undocumented migrants a $1,000 “exit bonus” and free government-funded flights out of the U.S. if they voluntarily leave the country. The plan, dubbed Project Homecoming, was unveiled Friday through a new executive order, marking a shift in tone following recent legal pushback on harsher deportation measures.
Through a newly released app called CBP Home, undocumented individuals can now schedule their departure and receive assistance booking travel—even if they lack valid documentation. Trump emphasized that migrants can choose to go “anywhere in the world, as long as it’s not here,” and that the program includes a concierge-style service at U.S. airports to facilitate departures.

The initiative comes amid growing legal challenges to some of Trump’s most controversial immigration policies, including mass deportations and detention practices. Trump insists this new “self-deportation” model is a more cost-effective solution, claiming it will ultimately save taxpayers “trillions of dollars” once implemented at scale.
However, the president warned that anyone choosing not to participate would face “severe consequences,” including potential jail time, asset seizure, and deportation “in a place and manner solely of our discretion.” The move adds yet another chapter to Trump’s hardline immigration strategy as he reshapes border enforcement during his second term.
