Trump Promises Executive Order He Will Sign Will Be ‘One Of The Most Consequential’ In History

President Donald Trump has announced plans to sign what he calls “one of the most consequential executive orders in history,” aimed at slashing prescription drug prices across the United States. In a Truth Social post, Trump said Americans have long been “suckers” paying five to ten times more for the same drugs sold elsewhere and vowed to finally bring “fairness to America.”

The order, which Trump signed Monday morning, introduces a “Most Favored Nation” policy requiring the U.S. to pay no more for medications than the lowest price paid by any other country. He claims the change will cut drug prices by 30 to 80 percent almost immediately and save “trillions of dollars” in healthcare costs over time.

Trump blasted pharmaceutical companies for blaming research and development costs while funneling money into campaign contributions. He argued that Democrats had failed to act and insisted his administration—and the Republican Party—would finally “do the right thing.”

This marks a return to an issue Trump pursued during his first term, when similar executive orders were blocked in court. Now, with fresh momentum and expanded tariff threats on foreign pharmaceuticals, Trump claims the new plan will force drugmakers to move operations back to the U.S.—or face hefty taxes.
