Donald Trump has officially revoked Secret Service protection for Hunter Biden and Ashley Biden, calling the cost to taxpayers “ridiculous.” The decision comes after reports revealed that 18 agents were assigned to Hunter Biden, even accompanying him on a luxurious vacation in Cape Town, South Africa. Ashley Biden reportedly had 13 agents protecting her, despite both of them being well over the usual age limit for former presidents’ children to receive such protection.
Trump announced the move on Truth Social, stating that Hunter Biden’s security detail was wasting taxpayer money and that South Africa’s human rights record had led to it being removed from the list of countries receiving U.S. economic aid. Effective immediately, both Biden children will no longer receive government-funded protection. Critics quickly pointed out that in 2020, Trump extended Secret Service protection to his own adult children, including Donald Jr., Ivanka, Eric, and Tiffany, despite them also exceeding the typical eligibility age.

The decision aligns with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative, led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, which aims to cut costs across the federal government. The initiative has already led to thousands of job cuts and a sharp reduction in government expenses. Trump and Musk have stated that the goal is to slash federal spending significantly by July 4, 2026.
While Trump’s supporters praise the move as an example of eliminating government waste, Biden allies argue that it is politically motivated. Security experts warn that removing Secret Service protection from high-profile figures could put them at risk, especially given ongoing threats against political figures and their families.
