Donald Trump has announced a plan to offer “Gold Card” visas to immigrants willing to pay $5 million, positioning it as a way to attract wealthy investors while controlling migration. The proposal would grant legal residency and fast-track citizenship to applicants who meet the financial requirement.
Trump framed the initiative as a way to “only bring in the best and the brightest,” stating that those who can afford the price tag would contribute significantly to the economy. Critics, however, argue that it prioritizes wealth over merit and could create an immigration system that benefits only the ultra-rich.

The plan resembles existing investor visa programs, such as the EB-5 visa, which grants U.S. residency to those investing at least $800,000 in American businesses. However, Trump’s Gold Card visa would require a significantly higher amount and offer additional benefits, including an expedited path to citizenship.
While supporters see it as a way to boost economic growth, opponents warn it could widen the gap between wealthy applicants and those seeking asylum or family reunification. The proposal has yet to be formally introduced in Congress, but it has already sparked heated debate.
