Donald Trump has signed an executive order that revokes the visas of international students who participate in protests against Israel. The order, aimed at curbing what Trump calls “anti-Semitic and anti-American” demonstrations on college campuses, gives federal authorities the power to deport students found engaging in such protests.

The decision follows a surge of pro-Palestinian demonstrations at universities across the U.S., with some student groups calling for a boycott of Israel and an end to U.S. military aid. Trump defended the measure, arguing that foreign students should not “use American soil to spread hate or promote violence.” Critics, however, view the order as an attack on free speech and a way to silence political dissent.

Immigration advocacy groups warn that the order could be broadly interpreted, putting students at risk of deportation for expressing political opinions. Legal challenges are expected, with civil rights organizations preparing lawsuits to block its enforcement.

With tensions over the Israel-Palestine conflict remaining high, Trump’s order has intensified debate over the balance between national policy, academic freedom, and First Amendment rights. Universities and legal experts are now examining how the policy will be applied and what it could mean for international students in the U.S.
