Will Smith is facing backlash for what some viewers are calling an “inappropriate” moment during a performance with Spanish singer India Martínez at the Premio Lo Nuestro awards show in Miami. While performing their song First Love, the two shared an intimate onstage moment that included hugging, close dancing, and almost kissing.
Fans also noticed that Smith placed his hand on Martínez’s lower back, and a post-show Instagram photo of her wrapping her legs around him fueled speculation. Some viewers criticized the display, calling it “controversial” and questioning whether it was appropriate given Smith’s complicated marriage to Jada Pinkett Smith. One fan wrote, “Even if it’s entertainment, this feels inappropriate.”

Others, however, defended the actor, with some saying he looked “happy” and should be allowed to enjoy himself. One supporter responded to critics by stating, “It’s a performance—do people not understand showmanship?”
The moment comes as Smith remains technically married to Pinkett Smith, though the couple revealed in 2023 that they had been separated for years. Despite this, they continue to support each other publicly, including through the fallout of Smith’s infamous Oscars slap incident.
