Viviane Lira Monte, a 24-year-old woman from Brazil, tragically passed away after undergoing six cosmetic surgeries in just eight hours. She had sought procedures including liposuction and a breast reduction from a surgeon she found online. After the surgeries, Viviane developed a severe abdominal infection and was admitted to intensive care, where she spent 22 days before succumbing to heart failure. Her family noted that she was released just 15 hours after the surgeries, and she soon experienced intense pain, which led her to seek emergency care.
Her husband, Renan Santiago, holds the surgeon responsible for her death, claiming the doctor pressured her into undergoing more procedures for a discount. He added that the surgeon insisted her post-surgery weakness was normal and left for Rio de Janeiro without providing adequate follow-up care. Despite attempts to save her, including treatment for a pulmonary embolism, the infection proved fatal. The surgeon has yet to comment on the case, but the family is calling for justice, accusing him of abandoning Viviane when she needed medical attention the most.
Brazilian police are investigating the surgeon, treating the case as suspicious. The circumstances surrounding her death have raised concerns about the safety of cosmetic surgery practices and the responsibilities of medical professionals in such high-risk procedures. Santiago described his wife’s final days as filled with suffering, as she knew her condition was worsening and communicated weakly with her family before passing away.
