Michele Kobke, a German woman who had been in a relationship with a Boeing 737-800 plane for nine years, has announced that she has ended the relationship. Kobke, who had named the plane “Schatz” (German for “darling”), had previously described her intense emotional and physical connection with the aircraft, even sleeping with plane parts she owned. Despite the breakup, Kobke has confirmed that she and Schatz remain on good terms and “are still friends.”
Kobke’s attraction to the plane is categorized under objectophilia, a condition where individuals develop romantic or sexual feelings for inanimate objects. Throughout their relationship, Kobke had collected various parts of the plane and maintained a strong emotional connection, even planning to marry the aircraft.
However, Kobke has now moved on and shifted her passion toward collecting items from the Middle Ages, including wearing knight’s armor. She has since sold 300 plane-related items to make room for her new interest. While her relationship with Schatz may be over, her unique connection to objects continues to evolve.
This story highlights the rare condition of objectophilia and showcases how individuals like Kobke form deep emotional bonds with non-living entities.
