Jessie Lee, a 21-year-old university graduate, was criticized online for her outfit while visiting Disney World in Florida. Wearing a red top, gingham shorts, and Snow White-inspired mouse ears, her attire sparked comments calling her a “stripper” and questioning whether her shorts were adult diapers. Lee, however, hit back at the trolls, saying the comments were from “uneducated” people who didn’t understand the fashion trends, particularly during the scorching summer months.
Lee shared that while most of the attention was negative, she found some of the remarks hilarious. She also pointed out that her choice of clothing was not out of place compared to what others were wearing at the park, where temperatures were in the high 30s (Celsius). Lee spent her summer working at Disney and said she was familiar with the park’s dress code and the various outfits visitors wore to deal with the heat.
Disney’s dress guidelines require guests to wear shirts and shoes, and ban clothing with inappropriate graphics or language. Lee believes her outfit followed the rules and fit right in with the casual, hot-weather attire worn by other park-goers. Despite some online backlash, many people supported Lee, with several defending her choice to dress comfortably and appropriately for the climate.
Supporters pointed out that people criticizing Lee likely hadn’t experienced Florida’s intense summer heat. Other Disney park employees chimed in, noting they had seen far more revealing outfits than hers. One commenter joked that her look was “not inappropriate” and “gave dads something to look at.”
