A woman in Thailand, identified as Phatrasa, has been charged after selling fake alcohol that resulted in the deaths of six people and left 37 others seriously ill. The incident occurred in Bangkok, where the alcohol was found to be mixed with dangerous chemicals such as methanol and isopropanol. Phatrasa admitted in a press conference that she felt “guilty and sorry” for what had happened, explaining that she had hired two men to produce rice whiskey for her, which initially tasted normal. However, customers later reported a change in the flavor, which led to the tragic outcomes.

The two men, Surasak Insam and Surachai Insam, have been arrested and claimed they diluted the alcohol but were unaware of how methyl alcohol, a toxic substance, got into the mixture. An investigation is currently underway to determine the source of the chemicals used in the fake alcohol. Thai authorities are urging anyone who consumed alcohol from the flagged locations to seek medical attention immediately.

Police Major General Kiatikul Sonthinen stated that Phatrasa would face charges for negligently causing death and severe injury and for violating the Excise Act by producing and selling liquor without permission. The case has raised concerns about the production and sale of illegal alcohol in Thailand and its potentially deadly consequences.
