A TikToker named Allegra Miles recently shared a list of slang terms that Gen Z uses, replacing phrases commonly used by millennials. For instance, millennials’ “YOLO” has been swapped out for “f**k it, we ball,” while “slay” has been replaced by “eat” or “ate,” used to praise someone’s outfit or achievement. Similarly, where millennials might say someone has “got game,” Gen Z now uses the term “rizz” to describe charm or charisma.
Other millennial terms like “on point” are now replaced with “locked in,” meaning focused and committed. The term “vibe” has also evolved, with some Gen Z individuals referring to a place’s “type beat” instead. The shift in language reflects how younger generations constantly create and adapt slang to suit their preferences.
While these changes may leave older generations confused, it’s a natural progression as language evolves with cultural shifts and social media trends.
