A group of YouTubers from the Kreosan channel went diving underneath the radioactive Chernobyl power unit using a DIY scuba outfit. In the daring adventure, the group explored water channels under Reactor Number Four, which exploded in the 1986 disaster. Using homemade equipment, they wrapped one diver in stretch film for warmth and attached a makeshift glass helmet, resembling something out of a sci-fi cartoon. With a breathing apparatus made from a boat pump and tape, the diver descended into the frigid, muddy waters.
Despite the murky conditions and limited visibility, the diver attempted to explore the eerie underwater area, only to find nothing visible due to the muddiness. He described the dive as feeling “like space” with strange “animals” at the bottom. When the diver tried to go deeper, the helmet filled with water, forcing him to return to the surface. The makeshift suit surprisingly kept him warm, despite being a last-minute creation.
After the dive, the team headed to a hospital for radiation checks, where they were reassured by a nurse that the highest radiation reading, 590, was still below dangerous levels. They were advised to undergo general blood tests to ensure everything was normal. Their bold attempt raised eyebrows and questions about the lengths some people go to for unique content.
This risky expedition highlights the ongoing fascination with Chernobyl and how YouTubers are pushing boundaries to create eye-catching videos. Their choice to explore one of the most radioactive places on Earth with DIY gear demonstrates both the creativity and recklessness sometimes seen in the pursuit of internet fame.
