Burger King Cook who Received Measly Gift after Never Missing a Day of Work in 27 Years Buys First Home after Fundraising Campaign

A dedicated Burger King cook, who gained attention for his unwavering commitment to his job for nearly three decades and the modest gift he received in recognition, has purchased his first home thanks to the generosity of strangers who were moved by his story. Kevin Ford, who has not missed a day of work in 27 years at the fast-food chain, recently acquired a house in Pahrump, Nevada, for $177,000. The 846-square-foot property includes three bedrooms and two baths.

Ford shared his gratitude and excitement on social media, stating in an Instagram video posted on Dec. 29, “I wanted to show you something, something you made possible, you did for me, just a hardworking guy. Now I know it needs some work, gonna cut off the haters already, I know it’s not a mansion but it’s mine.”

When he first purchased the home, it wasn't furnished, but Ford says he is going to spend some of his money renovating it.

The viral story began when Ford celebrated his 27th work anniversary at Burger King, receiving a backpack containing a movie ticket, a Starbucks cup, and an assortment of candies and chocolates. His daughter then initiated a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for Ford to visit his grandchildren. The campaign unexpectedly took off, raising over $439,000, with the family keeping around $350,000 after platform fees.

Ford’s story continued to touch hearts nationwide, leading to an appearance on NBC’s “Today” show, where he was reunited with his grandchildren. This event marked the only day he has missed work in 28 years. Despite the newfound fame and longer commute from his new home to the Burger King at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, Ford remains committed to his job, expressing his love for driving.

Ford went viral in 2022 after sharing what he received as a gift for working at Burger King for over 27 years.

Expressing his heartfelt thanks, Ford said, “I want to thank everyone all around the world for what you have done for me, something I never thought would be possible for me, homeownership. Now my kids and my grandkids have a place to come visit me, and I just want to thank everybody for being a part of this miracle and for everything you’ve done for me and continue to do for me everyday. This is truly an American dream, it’s a Christmas miracle.”

Ford credits the viral fame to the strangers who helped him save his life, claiming he was "depressed" and now he was given a roof over his head and can see his family more often.

Ford’s new home, which he plans to renovate with the donated funds, features a covered front deck and a fully fenced-in backyard with two sheds. He also intends to support his daughter’s housing needs and save for retirement. The overwhelming support has transformed Ford’s life, providing him with a sense of security and the ability to spend more time with his family, embodying what he describes as an American dream and a Christmas miracle.
