Contrary to her previous statement at the 2023 SAG Awards where Christina Applegate hinted it might be her “last awards show as an actor,” she delighted her admirers by making an appearance at the 2024 Emmy Awards. Dressed in a striking red gown, Applegate presented an award, defying expectations.
At 52, the “Dead to Me” star, who publicly shared her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2021, gracefully took to the stage with the aid of a cane. She received a standing ovation and was visibly moved, shedding tears in front of the audience.
Her fashion choice for the evening was a sophisticated burgundy velvet dress designed by Christian Siriano, featuring a peplum detail. Emotionally touched, she found comfort in host Anthony Anderson’s shoulder.
Applegate humorously remarked, “Body not by Ozempic,” referencing her physical condition with a light-hearted tone.
The actress complemented her look with a voluminous hairstyle and elegant gold pendant necklaces, as she announced Ayo Edebiri as the Best Supporting Actress winner. At the previous year’s SAG Awards, Applegate had made a statement with a Christian Siriano tux dress and a cane inscribed with “FU MS.”
Her defiant stance against MS has been a recurring theme, as seen in her collaboration with Neo Walk to design a stylish cane priced at $150, featuring the same bold message.

Applegate’s resilience and defiance against her condition were also evident during her 2022 Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, where she sported the “f–k you” message on her nails.
Nominated for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for “Dead to Me” at the Emmys, this marked her 8th nomination. Despite her numerous nominations for “Dead to Me” and “Samantha Who?,” her sole Emmy win dates back to 2003 for a guest role on “Friends” as Rachel Green’s sister.
The 2024 Emmy Awards were broadcasted on Monday, Jan. 15 at 8 p.m. ET on FOX and were available for streaming on Hulu the following day.
