Influencer Emma Brooks’s Optical Illusion Emmy Dress Causes Huge Stir

The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, held just a day after the Critics Choice Awards and following the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes, showcased a mix of fashion hits and misses.

Despite the close scheduling with another major event, the Emmys attracted a host of celebrities, though not all managed to impress with their style choices.

The red carpet saw its share of fashion disasters, suggesting some stylists might have taken an unplanned leave. Among the notable fashion faux pas, Laverne Cox’s shimmery strapless gown was likened to a “skin-tight garbage bag,” complete with odd fabric flaps reminiscent of fish gills.

Influencer Emma Brooks pushed boundaries in a Grecian-style dress designed to create an optical illusion. The white ensemble featured a long-sleeved shirt with a black shadow pattern outlining a nude figure, flowing into a toga-like skirt.

Sabrina Impacciatore, a nominee for “White Lotus,” wore a daring dress with large cut-out slashes and fishnet sleeves, lacking in elegance despite its bedazzled fabric and trailing train.

Ali Wong, usually known for her red carpet flair, missed the mark with a dress combining a sequin bodice and a jarring floral print, resembling a failed craft project.

Calista Flockhart, who shone at the Critics Choice Awards, opted for a peculiar ensemble at the Emmys. Her gown featured a tuxedo shirt-like top with blue sequins and tulle ruffles, paired with a black puff-ball skirt adorned with multicolored piped lines.

 

Issa Rae embraced a unique theme, wearing a yellow feathered outfit reminiscent of Big Bird, complete with a high neck and long sleeves.

Niecy Nash-Betts’ strapless gown drew comparisons to Ursula from “The Little Mermaid,” while Kerry O’Neill’s crumpled black dress was unfavorably likened to a “poor man’s Morticia Addams.”

Marla Gibbs also seemed inspired by Morticia Addams, wearing a velvet gown with an unusual neckline and gothic sleeve.
