The search for missing Brit Jay Slater in Tenerife has been officially called off by the local Civil Guard without locating the 19-year-old. Slater vanished nearly two weeks ago after traveling to the island for the New Rave Generation festival. His last known contact was a phone call to a friend the morning after the event. The search focused on the Masca area of northwest Tenerife, where Slater was last known to be.
Despite significant efforts, including a call for volunteers and professional search teams, the search concluded with fewer than a dozen volunteers showing up for what was intended to be a massive search operation. Slater’s family members, including his mother Debbie Duncan, have been actively involved, even putting up missing posters and raising funds to support the rescue teams.
A friend of Jay’s, Brad Hargreaves, mentioned that he had been on a video call with Jay on the day he went missing. During the call, Jay appeared to be walking on a road and mentioned he would call back, but he did not seem concerned at the time. Despite this lead, the difficult terrain around Masca, characterized by steep and rocky areas, has made the search particularly challenging.
The case remains open, and authorities continue to encourage anyone with information to come forward. This situation has drawn significant attention and highlights the challenges and emotional toll on families when loved ones go missing.
